New Year - New Team - New Blog
After several weeks of a total redesign - the NEW Frostburg State University XC/TF blog is ready to be unveiled! There's a new layout, photo gallery, videos (more to come!), TOP 10, and much more. There'll be some redesigning of the blog off and on - BUT this is the new & improved one (so delete the old one!).
The Cross Country teams have already competed in one meet this season (Galen Piper XC Challenge @ Shippensburg University)...and it was a great way to start the 2016 XC season. On the women's side - we had 7 women run, which is the most women to compete in that meet in a number of years. As a team they finished in 7th place with 220 points. Laurie Gotte finished the race faster than our 2 competitors last year, with Michala Garrison not too far off their times. Our only XC returner in the race, Jayla Jones ran a great race - proving that her work over the summer is paying off. Sarah McCurry, Sam Gittere, Gabrielle Petty and Mikaela Shelton all had great first races for the Bobcats!
The men's team had 15 men competing and finished in 7th place with 194 points - 1 place and 55 points better than last year. Out of the 15 men, only 2 had run this particular course before - Xavier Alvarez and Stan Higham. Both runners covered the course quicker than last year - in fact, Xavier's time of 21:33 is the best he has run this particular course in his 4 years at FSU. Robbie Romano finished first for the men with a time of 20:24 - the fastest time for an FSU guy since Brian Leiter in 2008. Our top 7 guys all crossed the finish lines in under 23:00 - better than the top 7 guys from the previous season. Overall, it was a strong start to the season and we're all excited to see where the rest of the season takes us.
We continue the XC season this Saturday at the Westmoreland County CC Invitational. The women's race starts at 9am, followed by the men's race at 10am. Good luck XC!!!!
And good luck to all our student-athletes who play a fall sport!!
