Two In A Row

For the second straight week, the Men's & Women's XC teams claimed team titles. The teams competed this morning at the PSU Greater Allegheny Invitational. The winning teams were presented with trophies and the top 10 finishers received medals. Today's meet marked the first time this season where the men's team competed at the championship distance (8k for men; the women ran a 5k).

This week the men finished in first place with 25 points - a solid 49 points ahead of 2nd place finishers, PSU Fayette. The top 3 FSU men all finished within 3 seconds of each other. Xavier Alvarez led the way for the Bobcats with a 3rd place finish overall. Xavier crossed the finish line at 28:03 - followed closely by teammates Jacob Rickards (28:04) and Robbie Romano (28:05). The top 5 FSU men were rounded out by a 6th & 7th place overall finish by Timmy Wolodkin (28:51) and Tom Burklow (28:54). Lorenzo Wilson and Matt Whitley were the next finishers for Frostburg. Lorenzo finished 11th out of 52 runners with a time of 30:49. Thirteen seconds later, Matt crossed the finish line in 12th place overall and 7th place for the Bobcats.

*Today marked the season debut for senior Cooper Mueller. He finished his first meet of the year in 37:26.

The women captured the team title with 29 points - only 3 points ahead of Carlow. The women were once again led by Laurie Gotte. Laurie finished 3rd overall with a time of 22:20. Faith Thackston crossed the finish line behind Laurie in 4th place in 23:04. Michala Garrison and Sam Gittere finished in the top-10. Michala covered the course in 24:44 and finished in 6th place overall. In just her second collegiate meet, Sam finished in 9th place with a time of 25:27. Gabrielle Petty was our next finisher - crossing the line in 27:07 (14th place). Rounding out our top-7 finishers were Sidonie Brown and Raynisha Johnson. Sidonie finished 18th in 27:49. In her first meet of the year, Raynisha was the Bobcats 7th place finisher. She was the 29th finisher and covered the course in 31:49.

Congrats on awesome races men and women!!

The XC teams are having a great start of the season! Hopefully after a weekend off, the team continue their success at our only home meet of the season. If you're around on October 1st you should stop by Maplehurst Country Club to check out the meet - it's looking to be one of the biggest XC meets we've hosted in the last decade.
