Spotlight on...Xavier Alvarez
Our first male featured XC/TF student-athlete is a senior on the cross country and track & field teams. On the track he has competed in all running events from the 800m to the 5000m. This year his focus will be on the 5k and the 10k. During the cross country season, he has consistently been one of our top-2 finishers on the team. His most recent race he was the team's top finisher, with a 3rd place finish overall. This week's featured XC/TF student-athlete is:

Major: Electrical Engineering
How did you get into XC/Track & Field? My high school teacher, who was also the coach really wanted me to run. Also a lot of my friends ran on the team and it seemed competitive.
If you could do any other event, what would it be? Steeplechase
What’s your pre-meet ritual? Playing Pokémon
What’s your go-to warmup song? Pokémon theme song
Best advice you’ve ever been given? To not listen to anyone’s expectations of me because mine will always exceed theirs and be greater.
Favorite place on campus and why? The P.E. Center because I like to work out, play basketball and swim.
Do you have an athletic idol? Who? Mo Farah
Favorite place to compete? Any meet that gives out medals and shirts for top place finishes.
Favorite XC/Track and field memory? Running at the State meet my senior year in high school when it was my first season running cross country. Also anytime I PR, win a medal or a shirt.
What is your favorite event to watch? Steeple chase
What’s the last book you’ve read for fun? Hunter x Hunter and One Piece
Favorite and Least favorite workout? Mile repeats and up-tempo long runs are my favorite workouts. If I had to choose, 200m repeats are my least favorite.
What are your goals for the future? Place top 2 in the 10k for the 2017 CAC outdoor track meet.
What achievement are you most proud of? Publishing my first graphic novel (comic) the summer before coming into college.
Stuck on a desert island what three things would you need/want with you? A genie, video games, and a fully equipped mansion.

What actor would play you in a movie about your life? Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson
