JV Proves Strength to Finish 15th at DeSales
For the first time this season, the Frostburg team was split into two separate races for varsity and sub-varsity, for the 8K this past Saturday at DeSales University. This means that the 9 men competing in this race were fighting for their own team rankings, separate from that of the varsity contingent. These men finished the race placing 15th out of 16 full teams competing in this race. Along with these sixteen full teams, there were also partial squads from nine additional institutions to create an individual field of 161 athletes.
Leading the men with an impressive time of 29:48 was Brady Dumonchelle. Dumonchelle placed 83rd in this race. His time actually puts him as the sixth fastest Bobcat to race the 8K that day, in front of varsity runners Lorenzo Wilson and Tim Wolodkin.
Finishing second for FSU, with a finish only four seconds behind Wolodkin, was Ben Allston who placed 93rd with a time of 30:05. Finishing the race next was Phil Hogan with a time of 31:54, leading a pack of four who all finished within a minute of each other. Stan Higham finished in fourth in 32:04, with Zach Talbert and Dylan Newberry following behind him in 32:26 and 32:39, respectively. Higham and Talbert account for the final point scorers for the Bobcats in this race, while Newberry and seventh place finisher, Jon Walton, affected the scores of all other runners competing in the 8K race. Walton finished with a time of 33:30 and a 145th finish overall.
Closing out the day for the men were Hayden Tranter and Cooper Mueller. Tranter completed the race in 37:38 and a 154th finish, while Mueller ran a 38:14 to place 156th overall.
With only a few races left before the conference and regional meets. this race was incredibly important for the team going into the final stretch of the season.
