Alumni Profile

For the last couple months, we’ve put the spotlight on several of our current student-athletes. Now, we’d like to take the opportunity to shine that light on our alumni. Our Men’s and Women’s teams have a long and rich history, spanning several decades – 11 XC All-Americans; 258 Track & Field All-Americans; 46 National Champions; 24 top-10 NCAA Division III National Championship finishes; and 3 National Championship titles.

Starting off these alumni profiles is an individual who wrapped up his throwing career almost 4 years ago. As a freshman he missed Saturday practices because he didn’t think the coaches would notice a freshman missing. Fast forward three years later and he became a leader on the team. While he was on the team he finished runner-up in the shot put multiple times at the conference meet; helped the team to a CAC runner-up finish during the 2012 Indoor season; qualified for ECACs; and scored a total of 52 points at conference meets during his time at Frostburg. Our first alumni profile is Christian Smith.

Yes, I’m still pretty close with the all the throwers.

Coach Kendall was definitely someone who influenced me during my track career at FSU. She pushed us to be the best that we could be in the throwing circle and in the classroom.

If there is one thing you could tell the kids on the team now, what would it be?

I would tell them enjoy the ride and have fun with it. Also I would like to tell my brother Shamar who is on the team to not throw shot put and stick to Jumps and Running.
