Women Finish 8th at Conferences
Yesterday afternoon, the women's XC team competed at the CAC Championship in Hershey, PA. The course was a tough one, but the women pushed through the fear, doubts, and injuries to cross the finish line. The Bobcats finished in 8th place with 196 points - only 2 points behind 7th place finisher St. Mary's. Last year the women finished in 9th with 258 points (the women scored better this year by 62 points!).
Top Team: York won its first ever conference championship with 31 points. The Captains of CNU followed closely with 33 points.
Individual Winner: CNU's Emmie Schmitt took home the individual title, covering the 6k course in 23:38.8. Her winning performance earned her Athlete of the Year honors.
Top Bobcat: Faith Thackston was the first Bobcat cross the line. She placed 32nd out of 103 runners with a time of 25:46.1. This is the best overall finish for Faith at the Championship meet.
Remaining Top Seven: Laurie Gotte was the second Bobcat to run across the finish line. She placed 47th overall with a time of 26:43.0. Following Laurie in 54th place was Sarah McCurry, who finished the course in 27:12.7. Fellow freshman teammate, Michala Garrison was the 62nd finisher with a time of 27:43.5. Jayla Jones was the fifth Bobcat finisher, running to 79th place with a time of 29:06.2. At last year's CAC Cross Country championships, Jayla finished in 81st place with a time of 29:37.4.
Sidonie Brown and Sam Gittere finished back-to-back in 90th and 91st respectively. Sidonie, Sam and fellow teammate Gabrielle Petty worked together throughout the race. Sidonie crossed the finish line first for the trio in 31:52.8. Sam came in about 20 seconds later with a time of 32:11.5.
Other Finishers: Gabrielle Petty finished right behind her teammates, Brown and Gittere. Petty finished in 92nd overall with a time of 32:14.9 (in spite of some nagging leg injuries, which weren't necessarily helped by the uphills and downhills).
Up Next for XC: The Bobcat Women travel to NCAA Mideast Regionals at DeSales University in two weeks on Saturday, November 12th.
Up Next for Track & Field: Practice starts on Halloween!! Excited to say that the roster is looking to be one of the largest in recent history.
